The trial phase will run for 30 calendar days and will enable monitoring of the new direct sales system with payment confirmation on the Tu Boleto platform.
The Ministry of Culture has launched today, 22 September, a live trial of the direct ticket sales mechanism for entry to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail network via the Tu Boleto platform (https://tuboleto.cultura.pe). This phase will last 30 calendar days and will allow the Ministry to monitor how the system operates and make any necessary adjustments.
This gradual rollout follows the completion yesterday of a 10-day technical adjustment period for the platform. The work was carried out by the Ministry of Culture through the General Office of Statistics and Information and Communication Technologies (OGETIC), working with the technical teams of the Decentralised Culture Directorate (DDC) of Cusco. These efforts made it possible to implement the necessary changes to replace the three-hour pre-reservation window with a direct sales mechanism that requires confirmed payment.
With these modifications, users will initially have a maximum of 15 minutes to complete their purchase, and once payment is confirmed, the ticket will be assigned and issued in the visitor’s name. If payment is not completed within this timeframe, the space will be automatically released and become available for another user to purchase. This approach ensures that the availability shown on the platform reflects tickets that can genuinely be purchased by the public.
Throughout the 30-day trial, the Ministry will monitor the platform’s performance and assess various aspects of its operation, including whether the 15-minute payment window is appropriate or whether it needs to be extended or reduced based on how transactions proceed and how users experience the system.
For the Inca Trail network, travel and tourism agencies will continue to participate in the purchasing process. Tickets will be linked to confirmed payment and visitor identification, whilst maintaining an orderly and transparent process.
The new system does not change the admission capacity for Machu Picchu, which stands at 5,600 visitors during high season and 4,500 during low season. The daily capacity for the Inca Trail network remains at 500 visitors.
